We missed the gunshot!

Traveling full time and seeing this beautiful country requires us to continually be aware of our surroundings. It is not always fun and games like blogs of many like to portray. Danger can lurk where it is least expected!

Upon returning to the park one day from a run to the post office and to Walmart where we replenished groceries, we noticed a person walking the street in front of our motorhome. The officer was not the police, but did wear a uniform. They parked their vehicle at the end of the street in the grassy area to the right of where the street curves left.

A National Forest Ranger was here investigating why someone in the park shot a defenseless turtle in the RV park! Someone in the park called them to report the incident. Their vehicle was at the end of the street while they waited for the shooter to return. When the shooter returned, we saw them detaining him in their vehicle. Reports said he was in their vehicle for forty-five minutes.

We later learned that a number of people were watching and taking photos of the turtle in the park, when the man came over, opened a case, got his gun out, and proceeded to shoot the turtle! What was he thinking? Talk around the park indicated he received a fine for $325 for firing his gun in the RV park. The turtle apparently was no longer on the endangered species list or the fine would have been higher. Reports were that the injured turtle was taken to get medical attention and would recover.

The man who shot the turtle was told not to return to this park for future visits.
